Thermal insulating glass can keep unwanted heat or cold out and siginficantly resulting in lower cooling and heating bill. The thermal insulating performance is measured by parameter of U-Value. The energy will be transfered by air temperature difference between interior and exterior of the building, and the U-Value just describes how much energy will be transfered per unit time, per unit surface square of glass, and temperature different degree. The lower the U-Value, the less energy will be transfer.

For the thermal performance of aluminum window in United States, the U value is 0.27 or lower in cold climate area and 0.40 or lower in warmer area following the recommendation of international Energy Star. U value is a measurement to describe how much the heat transfer through a window with the measurement unit of British Thermal Units per square foot per Fahrenheit degree (BTU/hr.ft2. F).
